Mental Awareness Response Training

is a community-based mental health response

model designed to equip everyday people

with the skills to help others in need.

PURPOSE

M.A.R.T. equips participants with foundational skills to recognize signs of mental health distress, respond appropriately, reduce stigma, and connect individuals with supportive resources and professional help when needed.

The training emphasizes awareness, compassion, safety, early intervention, and community support — not diagnosis or clinical treatment.

OBJECTIVE

  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges

  • Understand the difference between crisis, stress, trauma, and mental illness

  • Practice compassionate communication and active listening

  • Respond appropriately to individuals experiencing emotional distress

  • Identify suicide warning signs and crisis indicators

  • Refer individuals to appropriate community and professional resources

  • Reduce stigma and increase confidence in helping others

  • Understand personal boundaries and self-care for responders
