We're Big On Neighborhood Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis. The training helps you identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and overuse of a substance.

Mental Health First Aiders learn to identify risk factors and warning signs, better understand mental disorders, learn action steps to take to help someone, and where to turn for self-help resources or professional help.

So many people in countless number of neighborhoods are wishing and hoping for someone to show up. Mental health first aid training taught me that sometimes it's not a band aid, Tylenol or any medicine --first aid can be me or you helping someone.

Our corrections system would be better if all officers were trained in Mental Health First Aid. Our officers and neighborhoods would be better.
